In the Loop #2 | Levels
Reviews on the latest feedback-focused productivity, wealth and health-tech tools. One review released every Tuesday.
Hey everybody,
Welcome to the second episode of a new Circles in Time newsletter series called In the Loop.
Every week I’ll share a brief review of a technological tool, that is working to help people improve their understanding of themselves through data-driven feedback systems.
In this weeks episode, I’m looking at Levels!
WHAT IS LEVELS
“Levels Health is a continuous glucose monitoring and nutrition app that aims to improve health through metabolic fitness.”
The product includes an implantable tracking tool that monitors your blood glucose and feeds the data through to an application that organises this information and helps you make the most of it. You also get access to structured analysis from the Levels team, which is helpful.
The app visualises your real-time blood glucose levels beautifully and provides a comprehensive report each month, containing actionable steps for optimising your health.
EXPERIENCING LEVELS
Due to the logistical trickiness in getting the tech to South Africa, I am patiently waiting for my product to arrive. As a result, I’m not really in a position to offer you an experiential review just yet.
Fortunately, there are a few early users who have done thorough and entertaining reviews of the product, with you can access below:
LEVELS’ BUSINESS MODEL
Currently, Levels uses a product-focused business model. You purchase a Levels pack for $399 and receive 28-day Levels sensors, access to the Levels app, access to experts on the Levels team and comprehensive monthly reporting. You then pay a monthly subscription of $199 for new sensors on a recurring basis.
ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
As part of the onboarding experience, Levels prescribes a physician to review your health record. This information is fully encrypted and shared only with the prescribing physician. My assumption that this applies to the personal data they are collecting via the CGM sensor, but there is no clear mention of that. I’ve reached out and will explore whether that is in fact the case.
